September 2006 - Monthly Meeting & Info for October

The League of Women Voters in Hong Kong met Tuesday, Sept. 12. 2006 at the home of U.S. Consul General and Mrs. James Cunningham.

Susan Wallace, President, introduced Mr.Cunningham , our speaker.
A question and answer session followed Mr. Cunningham’s talk.

The League Board was introduced to the group.

Voter Registration – Anita Chopra

Michelle Todd is moving back to the States. The president asked for a volunteer to take over the position of secretary.

Nancy Ryback, Treasurer, is collecting the yearly dues.

Vickie Mirgel volunteered to help Beth with Voter Registration at the AmericanWomen’s Association Kick off Coffee on September 14.

Amy Van Laak has agreed to keep our blog up to date. The blog address is http://lwvhk.blogspot.com/ .Beth Hall, Vice President, reported on the League summer events: Xandra Kayden, National League liaison to Hong Kong, was in the city in August. In the absence of the president, Beth arranged a luncheon on August 18 for Xandra with League members. Traveling with Xandra was Bill Schneider, CNN Senior Political Analyst, who also spoke to the luncheon group.

The boxes for “Election Central” have been moved from storage at HKIS to storage at the ASIAN TIGERS storage facility. ASIAN TIGERS will store the boxes for 2 years at no charge to the League. Thanks to the American Chamber of Commerce for their help with this.

Beth also announced that the National League now has 71,092 members. She also announced that as of the summer League convention in Minneapolis – non U.S. residents are now allowed to hold Board positions.

The next meeting will be October 10 at the home of Robin Ernest. The speaker will be Professor Kaye Chon, Chair Professor Hotel and Tourism Management School – Hong Kong Polytech University. Photos from this meeting can be found here (click on September 2006 Monthly Meeting).
