November 2007 Meeting Minutes

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTER’S MEETING

November 6, 2007





The League meeting was held at the home of Heather Goessel in Pokfulum.

Eva Deffenbaugh, President, opened the meeting thanking Heather for offering her home and arranging our Speaker.

Eva then introduced our Speaker, Robin Pascoe, a Canadian author of 5 books covering the topic of global living, including her most recent, “Raising Global Nomads”.

Robin’s talk was followed by a lively discussion. Eva thanked Robin for her insight and presented her with a ‘ thank you’ gift.

There was no business to be discussed, so the meeting was adjourned until our Dec. 12th, Christmas Luncheon at the Hong Kong Vocational Culinery Institute in Pokfulum. Information regarding the payment for the Lunch will be forwarded to all members.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTER’S MEETING
October 9, 2007



The League’s meeting was held at the home Linda Harrison, Midlevels, Hong Kong.
Eva Deffenbaugh, President, opened the meeting thanking Linda for kindly offering her home. Eva then introduced our two speakers for the morning.
Our first speaker, Jane Buck, is a LWV member and VP/Assoc. General Counsel for National Benefit Life Insurance. Jane spoke to us regarding the Americans With Disability Act – why it was needed, what it has changed since 1990 and what it requires.
Our second speaker, Rebecca Wong, a Rehabilitation Officer working for the Hong Kong Council of Social Services spoke to us regarding the challenges of making Hong Kong more accessible for people with disabilities both physical and mental.
These presentations were followed by a Question & Answer period.
Eva thanked our Speakers for a most informative morning. A thank you gift was presented to Rebecca Wong. Photos from the meeting can be found here (Click on October 2007 Meeting).

There was a short Business Meeting:
Our Treasurer, Lynn Nyll presented the Budget for 2007-08. We now have 27 paid members.
Eva and Beth reminded us of the Bethune House Food Drive, an Annual event to support our Migrant workers.

Our upcoming meetings are:
Nov. 6th at the home of Heather Goessel, a presentation by a Canadian author on the many aspects of expatriate living.
Dec. 12th, Xmas Lunch at the Vocational Culinary Institute in Pokfulum, hosted by Janet Mager. Monies for the Lunch will needed to be submitted by Dec. 1st.
